Overview
It is the ultimate in luxury. The 2009 Jaguar XF, a luxury midsize sedan, offers everything that is unique about Jaguar— a vented grille, attractive features and distinct looks. It scores very high for its well-styled roomy interiors. The XF is Jaguar’s replacement for the S-Type, which it plans to phase out. The 2009 Jaguar XF has made a new entry into a highly competitive market, where it has to battle it out with the likes of Audi A6, Cadillac STS, BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class and Lexus GS.
Powertrain and Performance
The XF performs remarkably well. The four-door sedan comes in three trim levels— Luxury, Premium Luxury and Supercharged. It comes on a standard V8, 4.2-liter engine with shift paddles on the steering wheel. All the three models feature a six-speed automatic transmission, with a choice of two engines— a powerful 300-horsepower and an awesome 420-horsepower. While the less powerful of the two can reach 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, the 420-horsepower engine shoots to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds.
Body and Styling
Since XF is a new model, Jaguar has introduced with it a design that will define its sedans in future. One of the notable features is the Dynamic and Winter Mode which optimizes the accelerator progression as well as shift schedules and stability-system operation during foul weather. The result is a smooth ride during bad weather conditions. The touch-screen control feature is another important feature. The adaptive suspension on the XF Supercharged trim gives it an extraordinarily smooth and stable ride. The small grille and lower bumper vents stand out and constitute the XF’s signature. The size of the alloy wheels varies between 17 and 20 inches. Other prominent exterior features include the chiseled hood, the aluminum frames for the windows, larger headlights and LCD tail lamps.

The XF has put in place Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) which creates a perfect balance between ride and handling, electronically. Available on the Supercharged trim, the feature, with a network of sensors to monitor the driving style and road conditions, adjusts shock absorber settings to provide smooth and confident ride over all types of road surfaces.

The interior is plush and comfortable with features like front and rear sonar parking aids, adaptive cruise control, heated and cooled front seats, generic MP3 player or a USB storage device, a blind spot monitor, Bluetooth wireless phone capability and inputs for an iPod. Sirius Satellite Radio is available as an option. The gear selector is a rotary knob-type one. This signals a blend of the contemporary with the well-known traditional design of the Jaguar. One doesn’t need a switch to reach for the reading lights and glove departments. Proximity sensors make sure these functions are performed by just waving one’s hand. By folding the backseat forward, one can expand the already large trunk. And these are just some of the thoughtful features in the 2009 Jaguar XF.
Safety Features
Safety features in the 2009 Jaguar XF include front seat side-impact airbags, dual-stage frontal airbags and curtain airbags. Other standard safety features are anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, brake-force distribution, an electronic stability system and traction control. The front seats have active head restraints.
