Overview
Jaguar’s flagship brand, the 2008 XJ8, is a sedan (or, as it is called in its native Britain, a saloon) that seeks to combine technological innovation with tradition. The all-aluminum body construction has a more contemporary and assertive exterior. A notable innovation for 2008 is the computer active technology suspension (CATS), which enables better control and refined handling by automatically lowering and leveling the suspension. The result is improved stability at high speeds.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2008 Jaguar XJ8 offers a V-8 engine, which roars 400 horsepower on its 4.2-litre supercharged petrol engine. Also available is a 3.0-liter V-6 petrol engine, which emits 300 horsepower. The higher end model of both can reach 60 mph in five seconds. The transmission is a six-speed automatic.
Body and Styling
A notable novelty is a Bluetooth system that allows passengers to pair up to five approved mobile phones with the in-car telephone. It also automatically stores and synchronizes phonebooks and ‘last number dialed’ lists every time a phone call is made. Though innovative one fails to understand how this can actually be useful. The exterior has a new front bumper with a revised mesh.
Safety Features
Jaguar introduces a new safety feature for the 2008 XJ 8 with its adaptive restraint technology system. In simple terms, this uses ultrasonic technology to calculate appropriate air bag force (based on passenger weight and position) and deploy it at the optimum level. Also standard are side-curtain air bags, front seat thorax air bags and energy-absorbent front seat backrests. The focus is on improved safety for all occupants.
