Overview
Jaguar XF for 2012 gets a all sleeker looks on the exteriors and well appointed interiors loaded with high tech gadgets. Jaguar introduced the XF, a luxury midsize sedan offering everything that is unique about Jaguar - a vented grille, attractive features and sleeker and distinct looks, revamped headlamps and tail lamps - in 2012. Now in its fifth year, the XF is available in base XF, XF Portfolio, XF Super Charged and the high performance XFR trims. The Jaguar XF, in the highly competitive market, takes on the likes of Audi A6, Cadillac STS, BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class and Lexus GS.
Powertrain And Performance
The 2012 Jaguar XF comes with a choice of three outstanding engines. The 2012 Jaguar XF Base and XF Portfolio get a 5.0-liter V8 engine that churns out 385 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. As has been the case with past XF models, rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic are standard. EPA-estimated fuel economy is average for the segment at 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined.
The XF Supercharged gets a version of the same engine that has been supercharged to produce 470 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque. Jag says this car should be good for a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds. EPA estimates stand at 15/21/17.
The XFR also has a supercharged 5.0-liter, but it cranks out 510 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is actually the same as that of the XF Supercharged.
Build And Styling
The base XF features 18-inch wheels, a sunroof, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, automatic dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, keyless ignition, automatic wipers,auto dimming rear mirrors, and heated 6-way power front seats with driver memory functions. Bluetooth, a navigation system, touchscreen electronics interface, voice-activated controls and a ten-speaker stereo with a six-CD changer, an auxiliary audio jack, and an iPod interface and satellite radio are also standard. A front parking sensors, a rearview camera and a blind-spot warning system can be installed through the Vision package. A heated steering wheel and a power rear window shade are standalone options.
The XF Portfolio gets 19-inch wheels, bi-xenon auto-leveling headlamps, a more powerful V8 engine, bigger brakes, heated and cooled front seats, leather-trimmed dash and door trim, wood trim choices and keyless ignition and entry all forms a part of package 1. The Portfolio
Package 2 has Cold Weather package as optional along with the Sport Pack, which adds special 19-inch wheels, unique exterior styling cues and sport seats with additional adjustments.
A Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system with 14 speakers and HD radio is optional on the XF and XF Premium. The XF Premium can also be fitted with an adaptive cruise control.
The Jaguar XFR has all of the above optional equipment and adds a supercharged engine, unique 20-inch wheels, an adaptive suspension, bigger brakes, a specialized limited-slip rear differential, additional seating adjustments and unique interior trim.
Safety Features
The 2012 Jaguar XF is big on safety and traction and stability control, antilock brakes, front side airbags, side curtain airbags and parking sensors comes standard. Available safety equipment includes a blind spot warning system, a rearview camera and a forward impediment alert system (included with adaptive cruise control).
